January 12 - What Goes Around...

 Read today’s texts first: Genesis 29 & 30; Luke 12

 MAXIMize YOUR DAY
The laws of sowing and reaping always apply, if not in our life then likely in the lives of those who follow our example.

Jacob, the Deceiver, often had the medicine he dispensed to others forced down his own throat!  After his outright lies to his Dad to receive his elder brother’s blessing, it’s not surprising to see Laban pulling the switcheroo on his wedding night.  Notice the justice: brotherly rivalry meets up with more of the same with the two sisters.  Also, a mother’s favoritism, Rebekah and Jacob, shows up with Rachel and Joseph – RJ2!  Jacob spends many years reaping what he sowed.

The Luke reading also connects to this law of sowing and reaping.  The chapter begins with a warning about the Pharisee’s hypocrisy and the promise that every hidden sin will be exposed.  The teachings that follow all reinforce the importance of pursuing the things of God over greed, materialism, and worldly distractions.

It’s amazing how God allows imperfect humans to carry out His Divine will.  In fact, He often uses their mistakes to make it happen.  Still the laws of sowing and reaping apply.  There are always consequences to our wrong choices, if not in our life then in the lives of those who follow our example.

“Lord, I’ve seen You redeem my mistakes and still bring about Your purposes through my life.  While I’m grateful for Your grace that works through my imperfections, change my heart to be more obedient and cooperative with Your will to begin with.”
